We needed a new sofa…badly. After a string of duds and hand me downs we were ready to make a big purchase on a chic and comfortable sofa.
Easier said than done! I never realized how picky I was when it came to sofas. First of all there are a million ugly sofas out there. Eww.
And I pretty much went to every store around town, Pottery Barn, Z Gallerie, Macys, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, Eastern Furniture and of course all the little random furniture stores.
My needs: structured, chic, nail head, easy to clean fabric, traditional with a twist of modern.
My husband’s needs: comfortable and deep enough to lounge around on.
So I branched out online once again to find the perfect sofa.
That’s when I saw this number from William Sonoma
But the price was not something I could except or wanted to shell out.
So I searched some more and ended up looking into custom sofa companies. That’s when I found my savior!
Homeplate Furnishings in San Carlos and Los Gatos. We ended up going to the San Carlos store and met with Patrick. Talk about knowledgeable he knew everything there was to know about sofas. I also showed him a picture of my dream WS sofa and he said “Yes we can make that” WHAAAAT??!
So basically I got to pick out the fabric, redesign the nail head trim, and select the exact measurements of my dream sofa!
Unfortunately there were quite a few hiccups after that. When we received our sofa the cushions weren’t the sofa inserts we requested it felt like we were sitting on a cardboard box! So a week later they sent out the correct cushions but the wrong dimensions. Holy hell! At this point I was fuming. Finally about a week later they sent us the “soft” sofa cushions with the correct dimensions.
And now we are finally able to enjoy it!
This is a close up of the fabric we chose. It’s a polyester which is super easy to clean and I also shelled out the extra $100 to have it scotch guarded. (does anyone still do that?)
So, I’m hoping it will stay clean even with our two fatties.
The pretty nail head trim that goes along the base is my favorite part!
